It has been a busy and rewarding few days of water education and empowerment with the women of the Olievenhoutbosch community in Centurion.
Working with Deep-Water Movement and Hennops River Revival we undertook a water conservation and citizen science training program focused on helping the Olievnenhoutbosch community members become more aware of, involved in, and concerned about the environmental issues facing their community.
Day 1 started with what is a hugely important part of driving conservation, understanding the realities of everyday life faced by communities. These women spoke openly about their challenges from their water source to contamination risks and investigated ways to work around them. Day 2 of the training program included citizen science work, where we undertook water testing and shared insight into how to take action to protect our waterways.
This was a hugely successful program, with the women of the Olievenhoutbosch community bringing energy and commitment to the subject and their learning. They are now equipped with hands-on skills to combat river pollution and contamination and are empowered to make a positive impact on river conservation and protect our vital water resources.
