Excitement filled Sandakahle Primary School in Umlazi’s V Section as the much-anticipated WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) infrastructure project reached completion.
This project, made possible through our partnership with Diageo, focused on addressing water, sanitation, and hygiene challenges at the school, fostering a more conducive learning environment for students. Since the partnership began in 2021, both organizations have worked closely to provide sustainable water and sanitation solutions, enhancing the school’s infrastructure, which have finally come together to deliver:
- The renovation and replacement of toilets ensuring functional and sanitary restroom facilities for students.
- Two new basins and taps supporting improved hygiene practices.
- Three JoJo tanks equipped with electric suction pipes to ensure a reliable water supply.
- Modern waste pipe fixtures and storage cabinets for food and dishes promoting better hygiene practices within the school.
- A geyser in the kitchen for warm water access, along with fresh paint for the walls, creating a more welcoming space.
- New windows and burglar guards to protect school property and repairs to previous installations completed in 2023 further improved safety and usability.
This project signifies more than just infrastructure improvement. Research consistently links enhanced WASH infrastructure with improved educational outcomes, as healthy, well-maintained environments contribute to students’ academic success and personal development. Triple-P extends heartfelt thanks to Diageo for their vital role in transforming Sandakahle primary school project and their continued commitment to the WASH project in general and fostering the growth of future leaders.
