Water Processing At Work

Posted on 21/02/2024
Maximum Use Of Water Processing Systems

Another month of maximum use of our water processing systems sees 460,000 litres of clean drinking water being enjoyed by learners and educators. This brings the total supply to Rethabile, Marokolong and Mmamotse Primary Schools in Hammanskraal Pretoria to 2 560 000 litres.

This is possible thanks to a partnership with Takats’Eau and Watericon that resulted in the installation of water processing systems at the 3 schools whose only access to water was a supply of contaminated borehole water.

These were installed in September 2023 to deal with the cholera situation in the Hammanskraal area. Then, as it is now, water from the taps is not safe for human consumption leaving communities helpless. Research indicates that the contamination in the water is caused by the Apies River where a dysfunctional water treatment upstream sees a constant flow of untreated wastewater entering the river.

While the water crisis in Hammanskraal is far from over, this project is making some inroads towards fulfilling this basic human right and providing clean drinking water.

To learn more about this project watch this video of the installation of the system at at Rethabile Primary School
