Sea the Change: Celebrating International Coastal Clean-up Day on 17th September 2024
On 17th September, Cuttings Beach near Mondi in Durban became a hub of environmental action as key stakeholders gathered to mark International Coastal Clean-up Day. Despite the weather being less-than-ideal for the beach, passionate representatives from the eThekwini Municipality DSW team, the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, and other devoted environmental advocates came together in a show of solidarity and purpose.
The event, themed “Sea the Change,” was much more than a clean-up session. It was a catalyst for change with pressing topics such as marine pollution, advanced waste management strategies, the effects of climate change on our coastal ecosystems, and the drive towards sustainable practices key topics of discussion.
Reflecting on the day’s events, this forum was not just about understanding the problems facing South Africa’s beautiful coastlines; it was about sparking innovative solutions that could make a real difference. As we advance, we remain devoted to championing environmental stewardship and pooling our efforts and ideas, to forge a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable future for our coastlines.
