It has been a busy few days for the triple-P team in Middelburg, Mpumalanga, where we worked with the learners and staff at Beestepan Agricultural School to plant over 116 indigenous trees.
This included 10 species of trees and just for good measure we added 121 Spekboom plants too. This takes our total number of trees planted in schools to 336 as we inch towards our long-term goal of planting 100,000 trees in various regions throughout the country.
While the visible result is a grove of new trees that will provide shade and greenery in the school, one of the most critical parts of this and other tree-planting projects is ensuring that the importance of maintaining a healthy planet is shared and the role of every member of a community in achieving this is understood.
DID YOU KNOW? Spekboom acts like a carbon sponge helping to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and improving the quality of air we breathe.
