Global Recycling Day is celebrated on the 18th of March 2024 and our team celebrated this day by actioning our glass recycling work.
Focusing on glass bottles, we worked with three three liquor establishments in Kwa-Makhutha and Lovu in the south of Durban to collect their uncrushed glass bottles. Over 3 days, we collected 285 bags of 25kg each, which together filled 13 1-ton polypropylene bags.
This was an incredible start to a process the team has been working hard to establish and will not stop here.
“This successful pilot project was a great show of how much recyclable glass can be collected and sets us up well on our journey to establishing a glass recycling centre based in the south of Durban,” said Desmond Malgas, triple-P’s project co-ordinator and leader of our glass recycling initiative.
